As we continue to consider The Holy Spirit, this we explore what it means that Jesus baptizes us "with the Holy Spirit and fire." Malachi gives us the image of the refiner's fire, and John the Baptist gave a call to repentance. When we think about those two things, we'll see that the Spirit's fire is not about destruction; it's about transformation. It burns away what harms, and it ignites the gifts that God has placed within. This is a fire that purifies, strengthens, and empowers us to live as God's people in the world.
