As John the Baptist was imprisoned, he had heard of some of the works of Jesus, and now he is wondering whether or not Jesus truly is the Messiah. His honest doubt reminds us that Advent is not about pretending everything is fine but about bringing our real questions into God’s light. Joy awakens when we bring our honest questions to Jesus, when we recognize God working in unexpected ways, and when we see Jesus for who he truly is.
