Mattering begins with being seen. Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows us completely and loves us anyway. In Luke 19, Jesus stops beneath a sycamore tree, looks up at a man the crowd had written off, and calls him by name. Before Zacchaeus changes, he is noticed, and that noticing restores his dignity and belonging. The church mirrors Christ when we practice intentional recognition: seeing one another’s impact and naming it out loud.
