In John 14:12–20, Jesus promises that his work will continue through his followers—not because of their strength, but because of the gift of the Holy Spirit. As the United Methodist Church claims the vision of being “empowered by the Spirit,” we are reminded that God’s presence is not distant or abstract. The Advocate dwells with us and within us, equipping ordinary people to live faithfully, love boldly, and participate in God’s ongoing work in the world. This promise invites us to trust the Spirit’s power at work among us today.
