Communion help needed!!! Are you willing to serve Communion on Sunday mornings as a Communion Server? Are you willing to learn how to set up for Communion and clean up after worship as a Communion Steward? Please contact the church office.

It is time to stock up for Backpack Buddies!  School has started back and that means we are set to start handing out backpacks this week!  For a list of the items needed, please check the announcements page on the website.

The Hutchins-Hogan Circle will meet on Tuesday, September 5th at 7pm in the Heritage Hut. All church women are invited to attend. For information, please contact Carolyn Joines at 336-578-3478.

The Young-at Heart group will tour the Counter Culture Coffee Training Center & Roastery on Friday, September 8th, followed by lunch at CHOPT in Chapel Hill at 11:30. Please RSVP to Alice Finnell (alicenebraska@gmail.com) by September 5th. COST: Free tour + cost of your lunch. Plan to meet at the church at 9am to carpool. Beloved Women Bible Study will begin a 10-week study, Believing God, by Beth Moore on Wednesday, September 13. Contact Jean Barr if you would like to take part in this study. (jean.barr@gmail.com)

If you are interested in being part of a Walk to Emmaus 4th Day Reunion Group, please contact Alice Hallford at ahallford@centurylink.net.  This small group will meet weekly for mutual nurturing and encouragement in our Christian walk. This group is ideal for those who have been on the Walk to Emmaus, but it is open to all.  We hope to begin meeting in September.  If you’d like more information on the Walk to Emmaus, visit http://emmaus.upperroom.org/.

We will begin a new 6-week sermon series on September 10th, entitled “Mission: Possible” which will focus the church in a more outward direction.
In conjunction with the new sermon series, we will be offering a 5-week Bible study, “Life on Mission” beginning September 17th.  The Bible study will be offered twice during the week:  Sunday mornings in the Homestead Hut during the 10 am Sunday School hour or on Wednesday evenings beginning September 20th at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Participants in the Wednesday evening study will share a meal at 5:45pm.

The choir will host a retreat to Union Grove UMC on Saturday, September 16th from 9am-noon to listen and sing through the music for Christmas. All voices are welcome to join us!  Contact Derek or the church office if you’re interested in participating.

CHURCH WIDE CLEAN-UP DAY!! September 16th at 9am. There will be lots of jobs inside and outside for all ages and skill levels.   If you have a skill, please bring tools, otherwise, come prepared to help us make our campus sparkle in time for Heritage Weekend!!

Christian Believer is a 30-week study with daily preparation and weekly two-hour group sessions, integrating Bible study and study of the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. -THE PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to make available to people the substance of the faith that the church has confessed through the centuries as a way of connecting to God and living faithfully. -THE PROCESS: Christian Believer groups consist of twelve members and a leader. Each participant makes a commitment to daily preparation (reading and taking notes on Scripture and assigned readings in the book of readings) and weekly participation in the group study session (2 hours). -THE PACKAGE: Each participant receives a reading package that includes a study manual and a book of readings from Christian sources, both ancient and modern, on the doctrines of faith. Day/Time/Location: Wednesdays 6-8pm in the Heritage Hut Contact: Jerry Joines joinesj@gmail.com

Planning has begun for a 15-20-mile hike along the Appalachian Trail. Proposed date: October 5-7 (Thursday-Saturday). The final informational meeting will be on Sunday, September 24th. Deadline for registering for the trip and $25 deposit is September 10th, please contact Steve Vanderlinden with any further questions. Fall Family Outing – October 22nd from 3-6pm at Camp Chestnut Ridge. Activities will include a hayride and a campfire with S’mores.  We’ll share a hot dog dinner, bring a side dish to share. Fun for all ages and everyone is invited to attend!

Our FIRST EVER Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday, November 18th and Sunday November 19th. More information is available on the announcements page on our website.

Heritage Weekend Announcements!!!

Heritage Weekend consists of two huge events rolled into one amazing weekend: Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 30th and Homecoming on Sunday, October 1st. Proceeds from the 2017 Harvest Festival have been designated as follows: 75% of the profits will be put towards retiring the debt & the remaining 25% will be used to carry out the mission and ministry of the Outreach Ministries team. This is our largest church-wide event of the year and we need everyone to help welcome guests and welcome home family and friends. Your help is essential in making sure the entire weekend glorifies God. Here are some ways you can help!!

Lots of volunteers of all ages will be needed for Harvest Festival AND Homecoming and the days leading up to the events. Stop by the Heritage Weekend table at the Ministry Fair on September 10th for a full list of volunteer opportunities to sign up for the best jobs for yourself and family members!!

Planning for the Annual Harvest Festival Country Breakfast is in full swing, including already scoring an amazing deal/donation to bring country ham back to the menu! More details, sure to make your mouth water, will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Have you been putting off having a Yard Sale until weather cools down and kids are back in school? Wish you had time to list items on Craigslist to empty out the garage or the spare room? We have a simple solution!!  We can help you declutter by donating all your unwanted potential treasures to the Harvest Festival Yard Sale!!  Please start saving your stuff (or start sorting & decluttering now) so you can donate your gently used items to be sold here at the church on September 30th. You have 30 days to sort out and gather your: extra WORKING electronics, household appliances, adult & children’s clothing, accessories, shoes, linens, books, toys, furniture & home décor items you no longer need (or are looking for an excuse to replace!) We will begin accepting donations on Wednesday, September 27th, so hold on to them for just a little longer. There are some items that we will not be able to accept; for a list of those items, check out the Heritage Weekend section on the website.

Do you have a lake or beach house you would be willing to donate for a weekend?  Tickets to a sporting event or musical? Do you babysit, pet sit, house sit, rake yards, declutter other people’s houses? Do you have a relationship with a local business that you think would donate merchandise?  This year’s Silent Auction will begin on Saturday at the Harvest Festival and conclude on Sunday during the Homecoming lunch.  We are looking for awesome products and services to stock the silent auction.  Please contact the church office if you can answer “yes” to any of the above questions.

Homecoming Sunday will include one combined worship service in the big tent followed by a potluck dinner on the grounds. We will conclude the silent auction and announce the recipient of the Harvest Festival quilt. Start planning now for the amazing food you will prepare and share at lunch. Rule of thumb: plan to bring enough to feed your family and a couple extra people so there will be plenty to share.
