Orange offers several nurturing ministries, designed to make our members and our community feel cared for and loved. Bereavement Ministry offers comfort to families in their time of mourning. Stephen Ministry offers confidential support in times of personal crisis and need. Piecemakers is a quilting & fellowship group that also provides handmade quilts to several local hospitals, and Ronald McDonald Houses in Chapel Hill and Durham.
Are you in need of…
– someone who cares?
– someone who supports?
– someone who listens?
– someone who shares?
Stephen Ministry offers care, support and encouragement to people whose lives have been disrupted by divorce, death, grief, loss of a job, retirement changes, health problems, loneliness, discouragement, childbirth, questions about God and faith, and so forth. This ministry trains and supervises lay caregivers to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to people in and around our church. Men meet with men and women meet with women.
Stephen Ministers support people who for the most part have their basic coping skills intact, their thinking in order and their emotions under control. These care receivers need someone to walk beside them, to encourage them, to pray with them and for them, and to bear their burdens with them. The Stephen Minister offers his or her support through attentive, active listening and a caring presence.
Steven Ministry is a one-to-one ministry by trained, caring lay ministers. Through one-to-one caring and confidential relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them through particularly challenging times.
A Stephen Minister serves those who are:
– Facing hospitalization, disability or the unknown
– Bereaved, lonely or depressed
– Experiencing a personal, family or job crisis
– Terminally ill
– In need of a listening friend
A Stephen Minister is not:
A counselor or a therapist
A casual visitor
People are Renewed Spiritually
The Stephen Ministry invites change in human hearts. This ministry is a demonstration of how God comes to us through other people, and how God comes to other people through us
How do I request a Stephen Minister ?
Please contact a member of the pastoral staff at 942-2825 or a Stephen Leader through the church. You may discuss with them the need for a Stephen Minister for yourself or for someone you know. A Stephen Minister will only be assigned with the permission of the person in need, and under conditions of strictest confidence.
“Piecemakers” is the name for the quilting group at Orange. These women meet the first and third Monday of each month, from 9:30 – 12:00 am in the Heritage Hut. The annual big project is the quilt for Harvest Festival. After the pattern is decided by the group and the pieces cut out, the individual blocks are sewn at home and then brought together to be pieced.
When not working on the big quilt, the women make toddler and twin-sized quilts to be donated to the hospitals and Ronald McDonald houses in Chapel Hill and Durham. The Monday morning meetings are a time to share techniques, ideas, fabric and to continue the fellowship between the quilters. Any contributions of fabric or money to purchase fabric and batting are greatly appreciated. For more information, contact Doris Click (919-245-8939) or Martha Hicks.
